This custom ordered sign was such a fun piece, that really allowed me to use my creativity and imagination to really make it come alive. This was a four step process. First step was to prep the wood and hand draw the imagine on. Below is a photo of the image I drew onto the wood. I drew using light strokes for most of the image so I can easily make changes and or erase any lines left over after I was done with the wood burning. One area, for example, that I ended up changing
Here is a time lapse of the day of removing the walls and the 29 year old insulation. We will be replacing it with spray foam insulation on the ceiling, walls and floors. The clean up itself took 45 minutes alone to pick up the tiny foam pieces. We are very excited to have a completely gutted bus. Our next stage is electric, plumping and the new spray foam insulation. . . . . #simple #simplebylacey #customfurniture #petfurniture #rusticdecor #weddingdecor #tinyhome #reclaimed
Day one of gutting the bus! To make permanent plans for all the electrical, plumping and heating choices we wanted to know how the structure of this bus was, what we could re-use and what we had to upgrade and replace. To answer these questions and to be able to build the custom areas our first step was completely gutting the bus and examining everything. Here is a video what we got up to removing during day one. We took out the bench seat, the padding on the walls, the spea
We are so excited to be starting not only our first tiny home bus build but our first tiny home build ever! This shuttle bus is a 1991 Ford E-350, with 75,000 original miles. The transmission is new and only has 10,000 miles wear that has accumulated over the last twenty years. The owners before us used it to transport antiques to sell at live auctions. This was not a daily bus for passengers and for that reason it has been kept in great condition. In the photo featured above
Our custom cutting boards are a beautiful multi-toned wood display. Using only reclaimed wood we find hardwood that is naturally toned in a range of colors. Putting together the different pattens of color is one of our favorite parts to assembling these cutting boards. We really enjoy making each and every cutting board unique. We have an assortment of oak, rosewood, walnut, and maple that we combine together to create our custom cutting boards. Our cutting boards come with t
Introducing our largest build yet, which was ironically for the smallest horse, a Mini Horse! Dooley’s Love Shack is a mini horse run-in, aka his home to shield against the weather, to sleep, and to eat. It was custom made for a client in NY, who rescued Dooley the mini horse. Last winter due to the wear and tear of the storms, Dooley’s original run-in started to fall apart. The run-in either needed severe help to restore it or a new one needed to be designed. Together our cl
"Well you've heard about love givin' sight to the blind My baby's lovin' cause the sun to shine She's my sweet little thang, she's my pride and joy” ~Stevie Ray Vaughan These words are beautiful and capture the essence of love for many people including our next client. She came to us wanting to give her boyfriend a gift that was filled with love and will hold that special meaning for years to come. Her request was to have the sound wave from that exact quote burnt into a plaq
A father, a husband and a hero. We feel honored to have been chosen for this vintage door custom furniture build. This piece is a remembrance for the father of the family. This father was a fire fighter, risking his life everyday helping others. One of those days happened to be September 11th. He gave his everything to this country and to have helped this family be able to cherish his memory, was all we needed, to want to be part of this project. Our client, his daughter, cam
Capturing the essence of fall with its colors of Dark Walnut and Autumn Orange, this Bench Litter Box was the perfect way to start off this September. Lets face it, in this day and age its hard to not fall into the convenience of buying already made products. They are all around us, enabling us everyday and most items are reasonably priced. This age of mass production leads to over consumption, over spending, and lack of interest in what your actually using. We trust what they tell us but half the time when you look at the ingredients most people can not even pronounce what they are using. We all fall into this tradition es
"When you meet the one that changes your heart beat, dance with them to that rhythm, for as long as the song lasts.” -Kirk Diedrich. Dancing to their unique rhythm was a beautiful couple, celebrating the beginning of a long adventurous lifetime together. This past Friday our clients became Mr. & Mrs. and we were fortunate enough to be part of the big day! Amanda and Eric used Simple by Lacey to design and create custom wedding window displays for their seating chart. When we
Our newest design addition for all cat lovers out there, introducing our Multi-Cat Wooden Litter Box. This new concept is for the fussier cats out there, that do not want to share a litter box. With the design of two separate entrances, leading to two separate litter boxes, it allows both your cats to relieve themselves in the comfort of their privacy, even if its at the same time. This also solves the issue if they are the type of cats who only like to smell their own smell
"The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return”~Nat King Cole. Richard and I believe in spreading positivity and happiness to as many people as much as we can. Love should be shared amongst all humans whether their your friend, lover, family member or even a stranger. At the very start of the new year we found out the exciting news that Richard’s sister got engaged to her boyfriend of seven years. We were so happy for them and as their wedd
Our new custom table set, a matching rustic but modern duo. This pair is a perfect set for any home, with its minimalistic and elegant style. The concrete tops are sturdy, reliable, and sleek. Keeping the color scheme neutral and adding a splash of a english chestnut stain to the shelf, bar stools and ledge allows the pattern of the wood to glisten against the white backdrop. We created this color scheme and style to be able to use this set, indoors and outdoors, for years
Four years ago this coming August, Richard and I got married in North Carolina, in a city called Asheville. We spent a beautiful week there and fell in love with the land, culture, and atmosphere. When we had the chance to hand deliver our customers item, get to revisit the state where we got married, and explore a new town there, we could not say no. Off we went to Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Cedar Falls Park was our first stop inside Chapel Hill. We spent the morning explo
You had me at Meow! Here is our newest Reclaimed Wooden Litter Box. This beauty is finished in a Worn Navy stain with a Carolina blue entrance cover. It is now sitting in its new home, in North Topsail, North Carolina. This Reclaimed Wooden Litter Box went through many phrases before coming to the present condition. When we first find this treasure a few months back, it had crumbling paint, stains all over it, and was being thrown out. Even though the exterior of the bench wa
Today is about appreciation. The winter is so still and cold, the silence is needed but also endless at times. Richard and I enjoyed ourselves this winter by spending time together, snuggling with a cup of hot coco and taking in the blissful and peaceful snow. It was a well enjoyed season but we are so thankful that the warmth is here. We spent all day outside today just in celebration for the Earth and spring. The animals are out and about, feeling the wind in their feathers
Spring cleaning is in the air! Richard and I decided to go through our garage and our garden to reorganize and refresh. Looking through all of our supply of material really stirs our mind; helping us come up with better ideas for future projects, while allowing our supply to stay well maintained and preventing things from breaking or prematurely wearing down. There were a few areas of our yard that had been taken over by weeds. It took a full day at each spot to help the heal
